Getting Results with Light Weights, Resistance Bands, and Weighted Medicine Balls

SHIFT classes create the best opportunity for results because it combines non-stop aerobic and resistance exercise in a full body circuit program. Resistance exercises are a key element of the routine and resistance is provided by light weights, resistance bands and weighted medicine balls.

If you’ve never been to a SHIFT class you’re in for something special. Creator Dana Perri built each class from the ground up with the concept of creating the ultimate workout. If you have limited time and you need to work the whole body in the best way possible, how would you do it?  Her answer was SHIFT.

Resistance training is using resistance to muscular contractions to build the strength, endurance, and tone of skeletal muscles. It’s based on the principle that muscles of the body will work to overcome a resistant force when they need to. When you perform resistance training consistently and repeatedly your muscles get stronger. Other improvements occur at the same time. Bone density, joint flexibility and tendon and ligament strength improve as well. Heart and lung fitness improve also.

Light weight dumbbells are used for exercises involving the arms because they are quick and easy to grip and provide immediate resistance. Exercises such as dumbbell curls and triceps extensions are easy to perform. No matter what your fitness level, light weight dumbbells can fit into your routine.

Resistance bands add an extra dimension to work out routines. The bands come with handles and can be used with a single arm or both arms at once. Standing on the band at the end, middle or somewhere in between creates the resistance when the arm is moved in a direction against the band. Resistance can vary based on where you stand. There are many different exercises possible with resistance bands.

Weighted medicine balls are used to improve overall athletic condition and ability. The balls can be used in a range of interchangeable routines for upper, lower, core and general muscle conditioning. It depends on where the ball is used and whether its being held or extended. Medicine balls come in different sizes and weights.

SHIFT classes use lightweights, resistance bands and weighted medicine balls throughout each routine. Resistance exercises are performed non-stop with intervals to provide aerobic benefit at the same time. It’s all about optimizing your energy, focus and time to get the best results you can.

SHIFT classes are designed to benefit the entire body.  Non-stop resistance training creates a perfect combination of aerobic and strength training in each exercise.  The SHIFT methodology is based on the combination of aerobic and resistance training, not on one or the other. Why not get the best of both worlds?
